ROOT GALAXY NEXUS ON ANDROID 4.0.2 ICS WITH CF-ROOT [HOW-TO TUTORIAL]

Root Galaxy Nexus
Eminent Android developer and hacker Chainfire recently released his CF-Root tool for the Galaxy Nexusthat roots the device on Android 4.0.2 Ice Cream Sandwich, and we’ve got the step-by-step guide ready after the jump!

News of the root tool comes straight from XDA Developers – a popular forum for Android enthusiasts, developers and hackers – in the form of an official thread from developer Chainfire in which he discusses his tool and how enthusiasts like you can use to root their device.
From XDA:
This rooted kernel is for the "rooting beginners" and those who want to keep as close to stock as possible. CF-Root takes the kernel from an original firmware, and just adds root and busybox.
DISCLAIMER: Redmond Pie will not be held responsible if you lose data or your device gets damaged in the following of this guide. Proceed at your own risk.
Chainfire’s CF-Root tool does not come with a custom recovery like ClockworkMod Recovery, so you will have to flash it yourself. It’s a pretty simple procedure, and you can check it out in our post on how to flash ClockworkMod Recovery.
Step 1: Download the required kernel for your Galaxy Nexus:
You can check which version you should download by going to Settings > About phone and observing thebuild number.
Extract the .zip file.
Step 2: Ensure that your device is not connected to your computer.
Step 3: Download ODIN v1.85 [XDA Thread]. Launch it.
Step 4: Click on PDA and select CF-Root-xxx-vX.X.tar which you will find in the folder you extracted in Step 1.
Step 5: Switch off your Galaxy Nexus. Once it is completely shut down, press and hold Volume Down + Power buttons to boot into download mode.
Step 6: Once in download mode, connect your Galaxy Nexus with your computer.
Step 7: Ensure that you have not checked the Re-Partition option.
Step 8: Click on START and wait for your device to reboot.
If you followed the steps correctly, your Galaxy Nexus will now be rooted on Android 4.0.2 Ice CreamSandwich with Chainfire’s CF-Root tool.
If you have any queries, check out the official thread over on XDA.

Link2SD Android App – Use SD card for apps instead of Internal Memory

Link2SD screenshot 1

Link2SD is an application which allows users with rooted Android 1.6+ phones to move applications to the SD card.

Link2SD is an application which allows users with rooted Android 1.6+ phones to move applications to the SD card.

It functions in a way similar to apps2sd scripts, linking applications to SD card's second partition but differs in two ways. First, instead of linking /data/app folder (that means moving all applications), you can select the applications that you want to move. Second, it is an application, which means has a user interface. You can manage your applications with a few clicks.

It also provides native apps2sd features on Android 2.2 and higher. It can move any non-protected user apps to SD card (force move), with batch moving capability. It uses Android's standard SD-card installation feature and does not require a second partition. It can break some apps if they are not meant to be moved to the SD card (Such as Widgets).
Requirements:

· Android 1.6 or later
· root permission
· a second partition on your SD card

What I used:
-Xperia X10 Mini Pro
-4GB Sandisk MicroSD Class 2
-USB Broadband Stick as card reader
-PC running on Windows Vista Home Basic
-MiniTool Partitioning Wizard Home Edition
STEP 1:
Back up all data on your MicroSD.
Connect your phone/card reader with the SD Card and simply copy and paste all your files to your PC or to another MicroSD.
STEP 2:
Partitioning your MicroSD.
Download and Install Minitool Partioning Wizard Home Edition.
Plug your phone/card reader with the SD card to the PC and launch Minitool.
Your Micro SD should appear.
Right-click on it and choose Delete current partition. (It should say ”unallocated space”)
Right-click again and now choose Create.
PARTITIONING DETAILS:
1st partition: SD Card Mass Storage
(for you music, photos,documents, etc.)
On the Create window, input the ff. in the fields,
(You may leave the name blank)
Choose primary then FAT32 format.
Use the slider to set how much space you want to allocate for the first drive. (Mine is 50:50 around 2gb for each partition)
2nd partition: Will contain apps to be moved by Link2SD.
Right click on the unallocated space you left and choose Create.
You may leave the name blank,
Choose primary again and now you may either use ext2, ext3 or FAT32. (I used FAT32)
And then Create.
Now insert/mount the MicroSD into your phone. Download(see link below) and launch Link2sd. You may now choose the apps you want to move to your external memory.
TIP: Leave essential apps in the internal memory such as your launcher, sms, camera and others so you would have trouble loading them on start-up.
For assitance, you may leave a comment.
Thanks for reading and I sure hope this helps!

Add Social Bookmark Buttons to Blogger

In today's Blogger tutorial (Blogspot tutorial) you will learn how to place social bookmark buttons in the sidebar, footer and below each post in a Blogger Blogspot blog. This is a social bookmarking script for individual buttons or icons rather than the Add This all-in-one solution that I have previously written about. These free social bookmark buttons will encourage social bookmarking SEO by having your visitors save their favorite content and hopefully share it on social media sites such as Digg, Technorati and Stumble Upon thereby helping to grow your blog traffic.

I personally prefer to use an Add This social bookmark button because individual buttons can create a cluttered busy look. However, I also realize that the Add This social bookmarking button is not necessarily that recognizable to visitors who may have otherwise bookmarked your pages had the button been more recognizable to them.

  • To add extra social bookmarking buttons to this set download the Aqauticus Icon Set
  • To change the social bookmarking buttons for another set simply do the following:

    1. To find other social bookmarking buttons please do check out my article Best Free Social Bookmark Button Sets for Blogger first as very likely you will find something suitable in that collection. Download your preferred icon set. These will be in a zip file so you will need to unzip them and take a look at what sizes are on offer. Most icon sets come in at least several sizes.
    2. Upload your button images to Blogger or to an image storage site like Photobucket or Flickr. One easy way to upload to Blogger is to create a post called images that you never publish. Then upload the images you want individually (that's the drawback). Copy the URL address of the button image and paste it into the social bookmarking button code replacing existing URLs
    3. Change the URL address of each button in the button code I have supplied. That's the code beginning with scr='

In today's tutorial you have learned how to add social bookmark buttons using a social bookmarking script to the sidebar, footer and below each post in a Blogger blog (Blogspot blog). I have supplied you with the code for a small and large social bookmarking button set to get you started. I suggest you download the codes first and install them on your blog. Then it is just a simple matter of changing the URL address of the social bookmarking buttons if you wish to substitute these for a new set of social bookmarking buttons. Also in this tutorial I offered you some tips and troubleshooting suggestions for adding your social bookmarking buttons to Blogger. If there are other issues that crop up for you as always please ask. I am interested in hearing from anyone about how they got on installing these social bookmark buttons.

Blogging, Micro blogging and The Future

Do you know that Blogs are no more with us? Blogs died, as a matter of fact, they have been murdered? I am afraid to tell you that they are just no more with us! Let’s observe three minutes silence for these poor and unfortunate souls…
What is Microblogging – Learn About It
Microblogging is a new member to the world of Internet! Some of the Web giants such as Orkut, MySpace, Facebook and various others are quite worried about their existence in the future. Who would prefer making use of these portals as microblogging has paved way for prompter and faster communication! Not to forget the fact that it has the attribute of reaching out a large number of people in a short period of time. This does not make it a bad deal at all, right?
microblogging

The term ‘Microblogging’ is moderately a newer concept as compared to various other platforms that are available over the Internet. It actually refers to the small updates that are limited to 150-160 characters, and they have become instantaneously popular with bloggers all around the globe. Most importantly, ‘Twitter’ happens to be a live example when it comes to Microblogging, which is enjoying the utmost market share followed by other microblogging platforms such as Plurk, Yammer, identi.ca and Jaiku. The most appealing feature of these microblogging portals is that they can also be updated from your cell phone. So, this makes you easily blog even when you are on the go!
Microblogging – Top Features:
  • Other than being cell phone compatible, microblogging sites offer several other vital features, which are useful in attracting more and more users. Let me share some of them here.
Speed – It is not only fast when you are posting your content, but also while reaching out to the remotest corners of the world! It does not matter if you are connected to every single person on the network; your message is certainly going to travel worldwide. You need to be grateful to features such as ‘Share’ and ‘Retweet’. Your followers, your followers followers, their followers and it goes on – all you need to do is to post what interests most of the people and it is going to reach your intended audience in lightning speed.
  • Hassle Free – Bloggers are aware of the fact that if their blog does not appear nice, they are no more in the race. You need to decide on the fonts, themes, appropriate images – this all take a lot of time than writing a blog itself! On the other hand, Microblogging is purely hassle free. You do not need to change the fonts, no worries about themes, you do not need to change the page layout, you only need to post whatever you want and that is all about it!
  • Fun To Use – You should be thankful to microblogging as you will be able to acquire first hand information from live situations and locations itself!
  • Real-time Responses – The best thing here is that you will be having live bloggers and real-time users who are always there to read your posts, and they are certainly going to show some response to what interests them immediately.
The Future
Microblogging is the next big thing which is on its way for the bloggers, who have already abandoned traditional blogging. Now it is entirely up to you whether you want or you do not want to make use of its potential.  All the best!

RSS Graffiti – Automatic Updates of your Facebook Wall with your Blog Posts

The popularity of Facebook has skyrocketed over the past few years, making it a valuable tool both for friends and families who want to stay in touch and businesses who want to market their products on social media sites. One great way to do either of these things is to set up an RSS feed on Facebook.

Using these steps, you can have your personal blog post automatically to your Facebook news feed, so your friends and family can keep up with what you are doing. You can even post your Twitter updates to your Facebook wall, and even make your Twitter status become your Facebook status.

For businesses, posting the company blog on Facebook can be a great way to keep customers informed. You can even post an RSS feed to a Facebook fan page. Setting up an RSS feed on Facebook can also do wonders for writers who want to promote their writing on the web.

To publish your blog posts to your Facebook profile or fan page automatically you need to add an application to your Facebok account first. There are many RSS applications to auto publish your blog’s content. These apps adds your RSS feeds, monitors for any update and publish it automatically to your Facebook profile and/or fan page so you don’t have to share your blog posts manually to your Facebook friends, every time you update your blog.

RSS Graffiti is one of the apps for this purpose I personally use and recommend to fellow bloggers.

This RSS feed application is simple enough to set up in a few minutes, yet offers enough customization that you can really make your RSS feed appear the way you want it to look.

Some things RSS Graffiti can do:
1) Display your articles with or without the associated images.
2) Append a prefix to your article posts.
3) Display Twitter tweets in a short format.
4) Convert Twitter status updates to Facebook status updates.

How to install?

1. Sign in to Facebook.com
3. Choose your profile and/or fan page from left column and click green
+Add Feed” button on the right.
4. Put in your blog’s feed URL and make other changes below that.
Click Preview to confirm the link and to view how it will look like as an update status.
5. Hit “Save” and that’s it.
